Nokia Battery recall – Complete guide

 

Nokia announced free replacement of BL-5C batteries manufactured by Matsushita Electronics between December 2005 to November 2006 following 100 overheating incidents. There were 46 million batteries manufactured by Matsushita Battery during that period. These overheating incidents were happened during recharge but generally not in use. In these cases, batteries short-circuit, overheat, swell and dislodge from the main body. There are no reports of any serious injuries due to these batteries.

 

250 million batteries of BL-5C type which were manufactured by other companies are not affected.

 

52 models of Nokia cell phones are affected due to this overheating problem:

Remove the battery from the cell phone and battery number printed on the front side. See the 26 character battery identification number below.

 

How to check and replace your batteries?

 

1. Visit Nokia website and check your battery identification number.

 

 

2. Call Nokia customer care number 30303838 prefixed by STD code and state your 26 character battery identification number.

 

3. SMS BT><26> and send to 5555.


I
f your battery needs to be replaced, a new free battery will be delivered to the given address. Contact your nearest dealer with warranty card for battery replacement.

 
Batteries manufactured by other companies will not be replaced as there are no overheating complaints. Don’t believe in the rumours.

 

This is a severe blow to the reputation of “Nokia” which is the 4th most trusted brand in India.
