The number of Indian mobile users crossed 200-million mark. This is another significant milestone for the rapidly growing Indian telecom industry. This is the world’s fastest growing wireless market which added 8.31 million wireless users in August. Indian Government set 500-million wireless users target by 2010.
India crosses 100-million mark in May 2006 and added another 100-million users just within 15 months. Teledensity is still way below the world standard and is at 21.20% indicating scope for more growth.

1. Bharti Airtel is the number one wireless operator in India with 46.8 million subscribers.
2. Total Vodafone subscriber base was at 34.11 million users in August.
3. Total broadband users in the country stood at 2.56 million. It is a way below the target due to complex government policies.
4. Total GSM subscribers in the country were at 147.7 million at the end of August.
5. Total CDMA and WLL subscribers in the country stood at 53.59 million.
No one had imagined this kind of growth in 1995 when licenses were issued except Sunil Mittal of Bharti Airtel. He is a real visionary who outsmarted Ambanis, Birlas and Tatas.
