Mobile users can get relief from unwanted calls by telemarketers due to aggressive measures by TRAI. But many cell phone users are not properly utilising this service due to lack of awareness about new rules.
How to complain against telemarketers?

1. First you need to register your name and mobile number at National Do Not Call Registry (NDNC). Click here to register on the site.
2. You can also register by sending SMS “START DND” to 1909. SMS is free of cost.
3. You can also register through the website of your service provider.
4. There is a grace period of 45 days after registering with NDNC. If you receive unwanted calls even after 45 days, you can complain to the nodal officers of NDNC.
What is the punishment?
1. There is a fine of Rs 500 for the first unwanted call.
2. Rs 1,000 for the second unwanted call from the same telemarketer.
3. Service provider should disconnect the connection of telemarketer if he makes third call.
4. Service providers need to pay Rs 5,000 if he fails to stop unwanted calls from the marketing agencies. TRAI can increase the fine up to Rs 20,000 if service provider constantly fails to stop calls by telemarketers.
All telemarketers need to register their details on National Do Not Call Registry website.
Note: Mobile users should complain on the NDNC website within 15 days of receiving unwanted call.
BSNL users can call toll free number 1500 or by sending SMS “DNC ACT” to 53733/3733.
Please utilise this opportunity.
