Live tracking: Locate your friends with Google Latitude

Google added an interesting feature (Latitude) to their popular “Google Maps” service. This location tool will help you find the location of the person in real time. Mobile users need to download latest Google Maps mobile application and enable location sharing in the options. With this service, you can easily track the location of your friends and family members.

Cost of the service: Free. Data charges may apply according to your mobile operator.

You need to install Google Maps V3 in your Mobile. Lack of support to iPhone and Sony mobiles is a negative point. You don’t need GPS chip in your cellphone.

Latitude service has huge implications (both positive and negative) on our daily lives. There are positive implications like tracking your children in real time and negative privacy implications like boss tracking employee or constant tracking of wife by husband etc. Police can chase some cases especially stolen Mobile and kidnapping cases if any one in the group have “Latitude” enabled Google Maps application installed in their mobile.

Latitude Service currently works on: Android Mobile, Blackberry, Windows Mobile and Nokia Smart phones. It will soon launch on Sony Ericsson mobiles and iPhones.

Note: Your friends and family members need to allow location sharing to track their whereabouts using Google latitude service.
